Man pleads guilty to treason after attempting to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II

A man who stormed Windsor Castle on Christmas Day 2021 and threatened to kill then Queen Elizabeth II pleaded guilty on Friday to three charges, including treason.

The verdict will be announced at Central Criminal Court in London on March 31, where it appeared today, and it will be the UK’s first treason conviction since 1981.

The suspect appeared in court via video link while he is currently in hospital, the BBC reported.

“I am here to kill the Queen,” the attacker, Jaswant Singh Chail, told a police officer who intercepted him near the Royal Apartments, armed with a crossbow.

Elizabeth II was in the building she moved into during the covid-19 pandemic, but she never saw the attacker.

Chail, 21, also admitted that authorities had made the threats and were in possession of the gun, which was loaded and ready to fire.

Crossing the perimeter of the castle with a rope, the suspect was seen by a guard who, on first contact, asked if he could “help” him.

At that moment, Chail announced his attempted regicide, which he repeated by raising his hands above his head without resistance.

Queen Elizabeth II died of natural causes on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96 in Balmoral Castle, Scotland, but is buried in St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
