“Pigeons can have many colors, but pink is not one of them,” the New York Wild Bird Fund said on its Twitter account on Monday, after the discovery of a pigeon dyed pink in Madison Square Park.
This domestic bird, which showed “signs of long-term malnutrition,” was by definition unable to find food in the wild, fly well or escape predators, the bird association said.
Three days later, the Wild Bird Fund reported that the pigeon was doing a little better, but the dye was very difficult to wash out, as it was for human hair.
“The dye has a strong odor and we are concerned about the bird’s respiratory health,” laments the association.
The “gender reveal” track
Being unnatural, the bird’s color raises questions. According to the Wild Bird Fund on its Twitter account, a ‘gender reveal’ party is a theory that is gaining popularity.
These baby-to-be “gender reveal parties” are trending on social media. Future parents redouble their imagination so that the color pink (for a girl) or blue (for a boy) was revealed as original as possible.
However, this practice leads to many abuses. For example, last September, the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment opened an investigation after the release of a video showing a couple in front of a blue-tinged waterfall.
In 2020, a wildfire broke out in California due to fireworks used during one of these “gender reveals.”
