This is his second visit abroad since the start of the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to arrive in the UK on Wednesday, Downing Street confirmed in a statement released this morning.
The Ukrainian leader will meet British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and address parliament. He will also visit Ukrainian troops in training across the Channel.
“President Zelensky’s visit to the UK is a testament to his country’s courage, determination and fight and a testament to the unwavering friendship between our two countries,” he said.
Meeting with Biden at the end of 2022
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Volodymyr Zelensky had only been abroad once. In December 2022, the Ukrainian leader traveled to Washington where he met with Joe Biden and spoke in front of elected representatives of Congress.
On Monday, Charles Michel invited him in person to a future European Union summit, the spokesman for the president of the European Council said on Monday. However, his presence is not yet confirmed.
