Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the UK on Wednesday on his second trip abroad since Russia invaded Ukraine. Sky News and the BBC showed an image of the Ukrainian delegation exiting a plane at Stansted airport, north-east London.
During this UK visit, Zelensky is expected to meet King Charles III, visit parliament and speak to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. In addition, Zelensky and Sunak will visit Ukrainian servicemen undergoing training in the UK and meet with British military leaders to discuss details of the training programme.
According to a government statement, the UK will extend the training of Ukrainian soldiers to members of the air force and navy and will discuss an immediate increase in the supply of military equipment, including long-range weapons.
The British prime minister will propose expanding the program for fighter pilots, so they learn to maneuver more modern fighter jets used by NATO countries, “to ensure that Ukraine can defend its skies in the future.”
The head of the British Government was “proud” of the expansion of the military training program, “ensuring that Ukraine has an army capable of defending its interests in the future.”
According to the government, new sanctions against Russia will also be announced on Wednesday against allies who helped Russian President Vladimir Putin accumulate personal wealth, and companies that are profiting from the war.
