Twitter registers technical problems on the day of the launch of 4000-character tweets

Tens of thousands of Twitter users reported technical problems on Wednesday, even saying they couldn’t post, the day the social network launched a long format that allows up to 4,000 characters per message.

More than 45,000 incident reports were registered by the Downdetector portal, mainly after 9:30 p.m. in Portugal, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

According to The Information website, Twitter’s main shareholder and managing director, Elon Musk, asked the platform’s teams to suspend all development until these technical difficulties are resolved.

According to this specialized publication, the flaw may be linked to modifications that prevent user requests from being directed to the correct destination.

On the social network, dozens of users said they had stopped posting messages, and Twitter warned that they had exceeded the “daily limit” on the number of tweets.

US media reported that Twitter’s support site on Wednesday added mention of a limit of 2,400 ‘tweets’ per day.

Other users pointed out that they could no longer use the TweetDeck app, a platform that allows multiple accounts to be viewed on the same screen.

None of the corporate Twitter accounts reported the incident Wednesday, nor did Elon Musk’s.

These riots occur on the day of the launch of a new ‘tweet’ format reserved for Twitter Blue subscribers, the new paid service that costs eight dollars (about 7.4 euros) per month in the United States.

Twitter Blue members can, from now on, post messages of up to 4,000 characters, while the limit will remain at 280 characters for other users.

However, all users of the platform will be able to ‘retweet’ the largest publications, including those who are not Twitter Blue subscribers, this social network revealed on its user support ‘site’.
