Former Brazilian head of state Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva maintains the leadership with 45% of voting intentions for the presidential elections in Brazil, compared to 33% of the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, reported the Datafolha Institute.
To win in the first round, more than 50% of the votes are required.
Less than three weeks before the October 2 elections, Lula is 12 percentage points ahead of Bolsonaro, whose vote intention fell from 34% on September 9 to 33% on Thursday, according to Instituto Datafolha.
Ciro Gomes of the Labor Party, the third most voted candidate in 2018, grew from 7% to 8% in the last week.
Senator Simone Tebet, of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB), the country’s most traditional center-right party, remained in fourth place, with 5% of voting intentions.
The results of the survey, considered the most reliable in the country, show that, in a possible second round, the former trade unionist who governed Brazil between 2003 and 2010 would have 54% of the votes, compared to 38% for Bolsonaro.
