The border guard and Belarusian armed forces shot down a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) in Pinsk, on the border with Ukraine, the fifth since early November, Belarusian authorities reported Thursday.
“The incident took place near the state border in the Stolin region. Belarusian border guards detected a drone coming into Belarusian territory from the Ukrainian side,” the State Border Commission said.
This agency explained through the Telegram platform that a border patrol “intercepted the ‘drone’ flight” using electronic weapons.
The device was equipped with a video camera and, according to the Belarusian agency, the contents of the memory card “confirmed that the drone was launched from the territory of Ukraine and used for reconnaissance and image capture of technical means of border protection on the territory from Belarus “.
Similar incidents involving drones from Ukraine have already been recorded on December 1, 2 and 16, as well as on November 16.
Belarus is one of Russia’s most important allies, despite not being directly involved in the war in Ukraine.
The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than eight million to European countries – according to the most recent data from the UN. which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
