Alec Baldwin sued by family of cameraman killed on film set

The family of the director of photography who died on the set of the movie “Rust” announced Thursday that they will sue Alec Baldwin. Halyna Hutchins died in October 2021 after an accidental discharge from a gun held by the American actor at the set shooting in New Mexico.

In addition to Baldwin, the parents and sister of the “Rust” director of photography will also sue the film’s producers, lawyers for Halyna Hutchins’ family said.

It is recalled that the actor and the person responsible for the guns in the filming, Hannah Guiterrez-Reed, will respond in court for involuntary manslaughter.

The new lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles on behalf of the photography director’s mother, Olga Solovey, father, Anatolii Androsovych, and sister, Svetlana Zemko, who live in Ukraine, near Kiev. Compensation, the amount of which has not been specified, is being sought for assault and for intentional infliction of emotional distress, lawyer Gloria Allred announced.

“It is clear that for all three of our clients the tragic loss of their daughter and sister is heartbreaking, but now, on top of this tragedy, they must process this loss while living in the midst of war in Ukraine. [Vladimir] Putin,” Allred told reporters.

“Olga is doing her best to cope with the loss of Halyna, while also working as an emergency nurse at a hospital in Ukraine, caring for the wounded on the battlefield.”

It should be noted that Baldwin and other producers of “Rust” have already reached a financial agreement with Matthew Hutchins, the widower of the director of photography.

“Losing my sister was a terrible experience and one of the biggest losses of my life,” said Svetlana Zemko in a video broadcast at a press conference in Los Angeles.
“I believe it would be unacceptable to let this go unpunished,” he considered.

Attorney Gloria Allred said Baldwin has not contacted the family of Hutchins, 42, after the tragedy and that the actor’s lawyers are resisting efforts to resolve the case.
The lawsuit also involves Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s producers, and several crew members.

Baldwin, 64, has vehemently denied blame for Hutchins’ death and has repeatedly said the film crew informed him the gun was not loaded.

The actor previously insisted that he did not pull the trigger, though FBI firearms experts said that was not possible.

Assistant director Dave Halls, who handed Baldwin the gun, is also named in the lawsuit. Halls has agreed to plead guilty in New Mexico to the negligent use of a deadly weapon.

Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed, who have denied the charges against them, as well as Halls, are expected to appear in the New Mexico courthouse later this month for a virtual hearing.
