Salvamento Marítimo Español announced that it had rescued 98 migrants of sub-Saharan origin, including 12 women, who were traveling in two small boats south of the island of Gran Canaria.
According to the EFE agency, one of the boats was carrying 44 people (38 men, four women) and the other 54 people (46 men, eight women) and the rescue was carried out in the early hours of the morning, after being confirmed by three ships of the sighting of inflatable boats in different positions to the south of Gran Canaria.
The Maritime Rescue ship that picked up the migrants is heading to the port of Arguineguín, where it plans to arrive this afternoon.
