The United States shoots down another unidentified flying object in the north of the country

The Air Force of the United States of America (USA) shot down another unidentified flying object this Sunday, the third in three days, this time in the north of the country, as a precautionary measure and without any threat on the ground.

US President Joe Biden ordered the object to be demolished “as a precautionary measure” and several military sources, cited by international organizations, assured that the action of this yet to be identified object did not pose any threat to the terrestrial level.

The downed flying object is the third in three days, after two others have crashed in North American airspace, one over Alaska and one in Canada, to which is added another larger one and presumably of Chinese origin.

As congressman Jack Bergman wrote on the social network Twitter, quoted by the Efe agency, the operation that resulted in the demolition of the object was carried out at a high altitude, over the Great Lakes area, near the border with Canada, in the north of the US, and it happened after the airspace in this region was closed and then reopened, this afternoon.

This congressman from the Republican Party (in opposition) thanked the “resolute action” of the combat pilots, but stressed that the population “deserves much more responses” than it has had so far regarding these episodes.

No further details are known about this object and there is little information about the last two that were demolished on Friday and Saturday, when they are still trying to recover the remains, but the Democratic leader in the Senate, Chuck Summer, said that the authorities believe that both are balloons, but smaller than the alleged Chinese spy balloon intercepted last week.

The fact that they were flying at an altitude of 12,000 meters represented a “danger” for commercial aviation, the senator argued.

The object shot down on Saturday over the Yukon region of Canada was described by two North American sources cited by the Associated Press (AP) agency as much smaller than the balloon shot down on February 4, which was the size of three buses. and the object shot down Friday over the skies of Alaska was more cylindrical, being described as some kind of aircraft.

According to these two US military officials who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity, the two most recently shot down flying objects were much smaller than the suspected Chinese spy balloon, also had a different appearance and flew at a lower altitude, not appearing to be part of the Chinese planes or surveillance planes that the US says has operated in more than 40 countries at least since the time of Donald Trump’s presidency, between 2017 and 2021.

The detection and demolition of these planes occurs in the midst of a diplomatic crisis between Washington and Beijing, in which the US accuses China of developing a spy balloon program that has already flown over more than 40 countries on five continents.

China, for its part, says the balloon shot down by the United States was a meteorological device that deviated from its original course due to force majeure.
