Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Russia is in no rush to complete its military campaign in Ukraine, saying the Russian forces’ strategy has not changed and they continue to conquer territory.
“Our offensive operations in Donbass do not stop, they are advancing at a slow pace… the Russian army is occupying more and more new territories,” he told a news conference from Samarkand in Uzbekistan.
“I emphasize that we are not fighting with our entire army. We are only fighting with the contracted party (professional, editor’s note),” he added, as the Kremlin officially banned sending conscripts to the front and rejected a general mobilization. in the country.
“We will see how the Ukrainian counteroffensive ends”
“The plan (of operations, editor’s note) does not require changes (…) we are not in a hurry,” Vladimir Putin assured again.
He said operations were continuing despite major counter-offensives by the Ukrainian army in the northeast and south of the country. “The Kyiv authorities have announced that they have started an active counteroffensive. Well, we’ll see how it ends,” Vladimir Putin limited himself to comment.
According to him, the key objective of the Kremlin remains “the liberation of the entire territory of Donbass”, a mining area in eastern Ukraine formed by the Lugansk region, already under the control of the Russian army, and the Donetsk region, part of the which still eludes Moscow.
