“Once again, the courts have decided that Trump is not above the law,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James, who spent years investigating possible fraud in Trump Organization practices after the decision was made public. of the court.
In a statement, Letitia James stressed that the Republican magnate tried to “disrupt and frustrate the investigation” into his financial transactions, “but today’s decision [terça-feira] sends a clear message that there are consequences for abusing the legal system.”
The New York state attorney suspects that the Trump Organization “fraudulently” inflated the value of its properties by applying for bank loans and understated their value to authorities in order to pay less taxes.

Earlier, in April, New York State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron sentenced Trump for contempt, considering that the former president did not comply with his orders to present the documents required by prosecutors, imposing a fine of 10,000 dollars (approximately 9,300 euros) per day, for each day that he violated his order.
A month later, Trump appealed that decision to an appeals court, where the five justices issued a unanimous decision Tuesday, confirming the Supreme Court.
