Stoltenberg: “Ukraine has a window of opportunity” but “time is of the essence”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the contributions of allies in support of Ukraine on Wednesday, at a time when he identifies a “window of opportunity” to unbalance the war in favor of the country.

“I welcome the new pledges of support made by NATO allies, including more heavy weapons and military training,” said Stoltenberg, referring to “fundamental” aid, at a time when he considered that “Ukraine has a window of opportunity to make a point”. balance, and time is of the essence.

At the meeting that brought together representatives of the 54 members of the contact group for Ukraine at the Atlantic Alliance headquarters in Brussels, the NATO Secretary General also highlighted the support provided by the allies on other fronts, through the “comprehensive assistance package” that has allowed “to bring food, fuel, medical supplies, anti-drone systems and amphibious bridges to Ukraine”.

As for the ammunition shortage facing Ukraine, Stoltenberg said the problem is already being addressed, “meetings with the Defense industry having been called.”

“We see that things are moving in the right direction,” at a time when “the United States [e] France signed contracts, but also other allies,” said Jens Stoltenberg, giving examples of “Germany [e] Norway”.

“There are also others [Estados] that they have already signed contracts with the Defense industry”, he added, without naming, expressing the conviction that “this means that production is now increasing”.

Defense Minister Helena Carreiras expressed Portugal’s support “to the extent of its capabilities, depending on what Ukraine’s requests have been.”

“I was able to announce here the most important military support package that Portugal has given to Ukraine, which includes, as is known, the three Leopard 2A6 tanks, which are provided within the framework of a plan that also provides for the replacement of our capabilities, the repair of our tanks,” said the minister.

“This is very important because it allows us to continue fulfilling our international commitments and with this help we do not run out of capacities,” Helena Carreiras stressed.
