Airbus with a record profit of 4.2 billion euros

Airbus manufacturer Airbus today announced a record net profit of €4.2 billion in 2022, up 1% from 2021, despite difficulties in ramping up aircraft production.

The European company, which delivered 661 aircraft last year compared to an original plan of 720, a figure it hopes to reach in 2023, after some problems with the supply chain.

“We achieved solid financial results in an unfavorable operating context that prevented our supply chain from recovering at the expected pace,” summarized the chief executive, Guillaume Faury, quoted in a statement.

The global chain of suppliers -Airbus has more than ten thousand-, weakened by the pandemic, had difficulties to keep up with the accelerated pace decreed by the aircraft manufacturer, amid contracting difficulties, supply of certain raw materials, interruptions in logistics global and energy crisis caused by the invasion of Ukraine.

Billing increased 13% to 58.9 billion euros, reflecting the growth in the number of aircraft delivered, but also the impact of the strength of the dollar, as aircraft are billed in that currency. Revenues from the Airbus Helicopters and Airbus Defense and Space divisions also increased by 8% and 11% respectively.
