North Korean ballistic missile lands in Japan’s exclusive economic zone

A North Korean missile landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone on Saturday. According to the government of Tokyo, it would be an intercontinental ballistic missile.

According to Japanese government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno, Pyongyang “fired a ballistic missile to the east. It flew for about 66 minutes”. In the statement, the official said that after being fired, the missile will have reached an altitude of 5,700 kilometers. and it is believed to have fallen at 6:27 p.m. (local time, 9:27 a.m. in Lisbon).

When asked if the projectile’s trajectory would be increased (that is, launched from a greater angle and reach a higher peak), Matsuno replied “yes”, adding that if the rocket used solid fuel, it would be analysed.

“This series of actions by North Korea threatens the peace and stability of Japan and the international community. It’s absolutely unforgivablethe spokesperson added, later referring to the fact that the country has already officially protested through “diplomatic channels.” The government will respond by coordinating with the international community, including the United States and South Korea, especially the G7 meeting and the UN Security Council,” he added.

Earlier, Japan’s defense chief Toshiro Ino had said the missile should fall about 125 miles west of Oshima Island, in northern Japan.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said he had instructed the military to “provide information to the public and carefully analyze the security situation”. “It is a growing provocation against the international community as a whole and, of course, we have strongly protested against it.”Kishida added. At the tweet instructions were also left from his office on how to proceed after launch.

A similar incident occurred last November, remember, when Pyongyang conducted an unprecedented series of launches, one of the missiles falling into Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
