Wang, director of the Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Foreign Affairs Committee, reiterated that the balloon shot down by the United States after the object flew over part of the United States territory had no crew, was a civil aircraft, and had no potential. to be controlled remotely.
The Chinese “spy” balloon was located in late January in US airspace and was shot down over Atlantic waters on February 4. Days before, it had flown over several areas of the United States, such as the State of Montana (northwest of the country), where one of the three fields of nuclear missile silos in the United States is located.
During a debate at the Munich Security Conference in southern Germany, Wang revealed that “there are countless balloons around the world and that shooting them all down is impossible” and considered that the decision to fire the device “does not demonstrate the force of the United States, quite the opposite”
The same official also called on the US authorities to “move away” from “absurd actions” and demanded “sincerity” from the US government, while acknowledging the negative consequences that such actions can have on China-US bilateral relations.
Wang called the US decision to shoot down the Chinese balloon a “strategic misjudgment” and reiterated that Beijing is interested in maintaining bilateral relations with the United States based on “mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.”
Beijing has insisted in recent days that the balloon entered US airspace by mistakenly deviating from its trajectory, reiterating that the balloon was used for meteorological purposes and not espionage.
In addition to the “spy” balloon, the United States shot down three other flying objects in its territory and in Canada in the last week, the origin of which is being investigated by US and Canadian authorities.
The discovery of the “spy balloons” reignited bilateral tensions and led to the suspension of a trip to China that the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, was planning to make.
