The Russian army this Saturday claimed the rare capture of a location in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine, where its troops have been for several weeks, paralleling the offensives around Bakhmut and Vugledar.
“Towards Kupiansk, as a result of the offensive actions of the units of the ‘Western’ group, the town of Grianykivka in the Kharkiv region was completely liberatedthe Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
In its morning report this Saturday, the Ukrainian military said the small village of Grianykivka had been “shelled” by Russian artillery the day before, without giving further details.
The village is located 20 km northeast of Kupiansk, the main town in this part of the Kharkov region, which was taken by the Russians a year ago in the early days of the military intervention.
The Ukrainians then recaptured Kupiansk, which had a pre-war population of nearly 30,000, in September after a lightning counteroffensive.
For several days, Moscow troops, reinforced by the mobilization of hundreds of thousands of reservists in Russia, have been attacking the area again.
