“We are discussing with the Biden administration the possibility of a military presence [dos Estados Unidos] be expanded, both in time and in number”, said Mateusz Morawiecki in an interview with the CBS television program “Face the Nation”.
There are currently 11,000 US troops deployed to Poland, which borders Ukraine, on rotating duty. The country also received new “Patriot” systems to modernize its arsenal.
“The two things go together and we are very grateful,” the Polish prime minister added.
Morawiecki reiterated his country’s position on the impending war during the interview.
“Ukraine must win and Russia must be defeated. Of course we can negotiate, but it must be in terms and in the definition of the Ukrainians themselves,” he defended.
“It is up to them to determine what terms are acceptable for negotiations with the Kremlin,” he added.
President Biden will be in Poland between Monday and Wednesday to meet with his Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda, and other European leaders with whom he will discuss international support for Ukraine, among other things.
As White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre explained, Biden will speak with Duda not only about “collective efforts” to help Ukraine, but also bilateral cooperation between Washington and Warsaw.
Jean-Pierre confirmed that the President of the United States will also meet with the leaders of the Bucharest Nine Group, formed by Romania, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
