Following the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria, another earthquake, measuring 6.4 degrees on the Richter scale, hit February 6 in Hatay province, southern Turkey, according to the AFP.
According to The Guardian, the quake was less powerful than the initial 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that hit southern Turkey and northern Syria, but further threatened devastation in a region where many people fled their destroyed homes.
According to the British newspaper, the quake reached a depth of just two kilometers (1.2 miles) – said the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) – potentially increasing its ground-level impact. It was centered near the southern Turkish city of Antakya and was felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.
The country was hit by an earthquake on February 6, which claimed more than 41,000 lives, according to the disaster management agency AFAD.
