The GNR has recorded nearly 700 traffic accidents and four deaths since Friday, when the carnival operation began, according to preliminary data made available by that security force on Tuesday.
According to information on the National Republican Guard website, there were 696 traffic accidents between Friday and Monday, resulting in four deaths and nine serious injuries.
The day with the most deaths on the roads was Sunday, when three people died, and Friday, the first day of the GNR Carnival operation, saw the highest number of disasters, a total of 214, preliminary data from the company indicate.
As part of the carnival operation, which ends this Tuesday, the GNR has stepped up patrols and inspections on the roads, especially on the access roads to the main areas where festivities related to the season take place.
Road inspection actions give priority attention to driving under the influence of alcohol and psychotropic substances, dangerous manoeuvres, especially with regard to overtaking, changing direction and giving way.
Excessive speed, driving without legal permission, overcrowding, improper use of mobile phones while driving and not or incorrectly using seat belts and/or child seats are also priorities during the operation.
