Zelensky says it was “a year of pain, sorrow, faith and togetherness.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday marked a year since Russia’s invasion with a message to Ukrainians describing the past 12 months as “a year of pain, sorrow, faith and unity”.

“On February 24, millions of us made a choice. Not a white flag, but a blue and yellow flag. [da Ucrânia]. Not to run away, but to face. Face the enemy. Resist and fight,” added.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that “it was a year of pain, sorrow, faith and unity.

“And this is a year of our invincibility, we know that this will be the year of our victory,” Zelensky emphasized in a video message published on the Telegram messaging platform.

In another message also published on his “site” today, the minister said he had met senior army officials to address arms production in the country.

“We have addressed the issue of the production and supply of ammunition and weapons. Of course, I cannot publicly disclose the details of this issue. But this is important work. And I was pleased to hear at the meeting of the military high command that even under under these circumstances we have the right potential,” he stressed.

Russia launched its war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022 with a full-scale invasion, after concentrating thousands of troops along its border with the neighboring country.

The number of civilian and military casualties is unknown, but several sources, including the UN, have admitted it will be significantly high.

At the end of September, Russia formalized in internal law the annexation of the regions of Kherson, Zaporijia, Donetsk and Lugansk, after doing the same in 2014, with Crimea.

Neither Kyiv nor the wider international community recognizes Russian authority in the five annexed regions.
