US criticizes China’s peace plan, highlights Russia’s failure

The United States on Friday criticized China’s announced “peace plan” consisting of 12 points to end the conflict in Ukraine, highlighting Russia’s military failure despite opposition from Ukrainian troops.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan stated that Washington is watching Beijing’s movements “closely” and underlined that the Asian giant could be preparing to “supply lethal weapons to Russia”, a possible scenario that has yet to materialize. not confirmed, but not ruled out either.

However, Sullivan said the idea of the two countries becoming “inseparable allies” has not been proven, given that China has exercised “caution” over the conflict and refrained from supporting Moscow in the context of the recent vote in the UN. .

“They were trying to show that somehow they don’t fully support Russia regarding this war”declared the North American adviser.

In addition, Sullivan stated that the war “could end tomorrow” if Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has “made the decision to start it,” so concludes.

“I think it can be stopped and the sovereignty of all nations can be respected. This war can end tomorrow if Russia stops attacking Ukraine and withdraws its troops.”he declared.

“Ukraine did not attack Russia, NATO did not attack Russia, the United States did not attack Russia. It is a war that Putin started”he said before pointing out that the war could go on for months, however, with no end in sight.

In this sense, Sullivan stated that after a year of conflict, Ukraine has managed to stop Russia’s advance and prevent it from fulfilling its main goal – the capture of the capital Kiev.

“Russia’s goal in this war was to wipe Ukraine off the map, take its capital and eliminate it, incorporate it into Russia,” he said.

Sullivan, however, defended that the Russians “failed”, further underlining that Russia’s prospects for achieving such a goal are not positive.

In the same statements, the North American adviser tentatively ruled out the possibility of Russia planning a change of position on the nuclear issue.

“We have not seen any movement on nuclear weapons that would lead us to believe that anything has changed in the past year,” added Jake Sullivan.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, triggering a full-scale war that plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
