The US warns of increasing military cooperation between Russia and Iran

The White House this Friday warned of increasing military cooperation between Russia and Iran, specifying that Tehran was sending artillery and ammunition for tanks, while Moscow was supplying fighter-bombers to the Islamic Republic.

According to John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council of the US government led by Joe Biden, Iran has supplied Russia with hundreds of “drones” since August, which uses them to attack “infrastructures” in Ukraine.

Kirby said he has additional information that Iranian support for the “Russian war” has increased since November 2022. “We believe that Russia will be able to provide Iran with unprecedented military support, including missiles, technologies and air defense systems”said John Kirby, spokesman for the United States National Security Council, specifying that Moscow will be able to supply “fighters” to Tehran.

According to the US spokesman, Iran has sent military artillery material and ammunition for tanks to Russia in support of the war in Ukraine, which wants to strengthen cooperation to obtain more war material.

In return, Moscow offered the Persian country not only fighter-bombers, but also “missiles, electronic equipment and anti-aircraft guns,” Kirby said. “Iran also wants to buy more military equipment from Russia, including attack helicopters, radars and YAK-130 aircraft” added. Kirby claimed that North Korea supplied weapons to the Russian mercenary group Wagner, “which commits atrocities and human rights violations in Ukraine”.

In most parts of the world, this Friday marks the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a country the United States and its allies are helping with military aid. Washington this Friday announced a new package of military and humanitarian aid to Kiev, as well as new sanctions against Russian authorities and their partners in other countries, as well as an increase in tariffs on metal imports from Russia.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than eight million to European countries – according to the most recent data from the UN. which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945). At the moment, at least 18 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million people need food aid and shelter.

The invasion, justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security, was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Kiev and imposing sanctions to impose. to Moscow.

The UN presented 8,006 civilian casualties and 13,287 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, exactly one year ago, underlining that these numbers are far below the real ones.
