Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Joint Army Forces commander Eduard Moskaliov without giving the reason for his decision, in a presidential decree released this Monday by the Ukrinform news agency.
The Joint Forces are fighting in the Donbass region, located in the east of the country and partly occupied by Russia, which has advanced in recent weeks after fighting that resulted in heavy casualties.
The decree, signed this Sunday and published on the presidency’s website, referred to “the resignation of E. Moskaliov as commander of the Joint Forces”.
Moskaliov had been appointed to the post at the end of March.
The Ukrainian president has periodically fired some military commanders.
On February 11, the Ukrainian press reported the resignation of the deputy commander of the National Guard, Ruslan Dzyba.
