The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, ordered this Tuesday the Federal Security Service (FSB), the Russian secret service agency, to strengthen control on the border with Ukraine, while the conflict intensifies in the neighboring country.
“The Russian-Ukrainian state border route must be under special control of the FSB border guard,” Putin said during a meeting with top Russian intelligence officials, the state news agency TASS reported.
In this sense, the Russian head of state called for a higher level of surveillance and constant monitoring of “facilities and infrastructure of vital importance, particularly industrial or energy.”
The Russian president also called for the adoption of measures to deal with “acts of sabotage” in the border area and to “frustrate the actions” of groups associated with this type of operation.
“In general, it is necessary to strengthen the counterintelligence line in the area because the special services of Western countries have always worked actively against Russia and now they have mobilized more resources against us. We need to respond appropriately,” she stressed.
Putin today accused Ukraine of using terrorism as a method of warfare after several attacks with ‘drones’ (unmanned aircraft) about 100 kilometers from Moscow and in the south of the country.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
