Russian soldiers still want to fight? As the Ukrainian counter-offensive continues, disturbing letters have been found in the liberated city of Izium according to reports from the Washington Post.
They were written by soldiers, they are addressed to the Russian military administration, and they all have the same objective: to leave the zone of special military operation, the name given to Moscow to designate the war in Ukraine.
“Lack of day off” and “moral exhaustion”
According to the American newspaper, these letters were found in a house in Izioum occupied by soldiers, among the personal belongings left there.
“I refuse to complete my participation in the special operation on the territory of Ukraine due to lack of rest days and moral exhaustion,” reads a letter, when another soldier asks to be released “because of his health,” and “lack of the necessary medical assistance”.
Among these letters, several were written by officers and are dated August 30, just a few days before the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
“It is clear that they are completely demoralized,” said Sylvie Bermann, a diplomatic consultant for BFMTV and a former French ambassador to Moscow. “There were already telephone calls answered by the Ukrainian services. Later we can say that it is propaganda, but it coincides quite well with what we know about the state of mind of these soldiers who did not want more and who do not want it.” I don’t understand why they’re fighting.”
These letters are still being authenticated, but the signatures indicate that all their authors belong to the same mechanized infantry division, based southwest of Moscow. An anti-aircraft defense unit, engaged in Ukraine since the beginning of the offensive in the country.
