“Glory to Ukraine.” Russian Authorities Arrest Father Over His Daughter’s Anti-War Drawing

Russian authorities arrested Alexei Moskalev, a single father, because his daughter drew an anti-war cartoon in support of Ukraine at school. Masha is 12 years old and, when she was asked for a job supporting the Russian troops, she presented a drawing with the flags of both countries. On one she writes “no to war”, on the other “Glory to Ukraine”.

The case is reported by the independent Russian newspaper Meduza. Everything will have happened in December. The school denounced the student and, at the time, the father was detained for 24 hours, beaten and assaulted by the secret services.

Alexei Moskalev was accused of discrediting the military establishment, which could get him up to three years in prison, and Masha was sent to an orphanage. Also because of the drawing, his father lost his business and had to move to another city. This Wednesday they were found. Alexei was arrested and Masha locked in her house by the authorities, where she is alone.
