Ukraine delegation to disarmament conference rejects peace “at any cost”.

The Ukrainian delegation present at the UN conference on disarmament assured this Thursday that the country will continue to fight against “Russian genocidal aggression” because “it has no other alternative”, insisting that it “will not accept peace at any price” .

“We will not accept anything that will occupy our territories and leave our people at the mercy of the aggressor”assured the Ukrainian ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Eugenia Filipenko, at the disarmament conference that took place this week in the Swiss city, at which the Russian deputy foreign minister, Serguei Ryabkov, also intervened on Thursday.

Filipenko’s statements come at a time when several countries, most notably China, have made proposals to end the conflict.

“Russia must be stopped because we have seen that if we don’t, there will be new aggression elsewhere.”assured the Ukrainian diplomat, insisting that the West must contribute militarily to the territorial defense of Ukraine.

“Ask not when the war will end, but how you can help Ukraine win it quickly by sending artillery, ammunition, tanks, long-range missiles or fighter jets”underlined the ambassador and reiterated that Moscow has committed war crimes and terrorism against Ukrainian citizens.

The Ukrainian representative also assured that Russian military aggression created a serious imbalance in the global security system. “endangering the effectiveness of and confidence in weapons of mass destruction non-proliferation systems”.

Earlier and in his speech, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stated that the “drone” attacks that Ukraine carried out in early December against military bases in Russia could not have been carried out without the help of the US.

Ryabkov, who traveled to Geneva to address the Human Rights Council and the Conference on Disarmament, stated that Washington provided various information about the goals to be achieved.

“Some time ago, Kiev launched drone strikes against bases of our long-range aircraft in the Saratov region and also in the Ryazan region”he stated at a press conference.

In early December, Russia’s defense ministry said attacks by Ukrainian drones caused explosions at two airports, including the Russian city of Engels, killing three.

“We know that these attacks would never have been possible without very deep and sophisticated assistance from the United States to the Ukrainian military, including the targets, and also the provision of intelligence and also technical assistance.”he claimed.

The Engels airbase, in the Saratov region (south) and located more than 600 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, receives strategic bombers from Russia.

The United States has denied any involvement and Ukraine has never admitted to carrying out the attacks.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

On several occasions, information about the war in Ukraine released by the two sides cannot be independently confirmed.
