Ukraine: strong explosion recorded by residents of the Moscow region

Residents of Kolomna, a Russian city in the Moscow region, reported a strong explosion and smoke billowing from a bridge connecting Pisky station to Cherkizovo on Thursday, Ukrainian agency Euromaidan Press reported.

One of the main Russian scientific and military equipment construction centers, where Iskander ballistic missile systems were developed, is located in Kolomna.

The reports were released on the Baza channel of the Telegram social network, according to Euromaidan.

It was previously reported on the same channel that one person died and five were injured after an IL-76 aircraft exploded during tests.

The Kremlin on Thursday accused a group of alleged Ukrainian saboteurs of carrying out a “terrorist attack” in the Briansk border area, while Kiev called the Russian accusations “deliberate provocations”.

According to the agency France Prece (AFP), the border regions have been bombed since February last year, but it is not often that the authorities in Moscow report actions by Ukrainian sabotage groups.

Russia’s Security Service (FSB) announced today that it has repelled “Ukrainian nationalists” who infiltrated Russia’s Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, and killed two civilians.

An 11-year-old child was injured, according to Russian authorities.

According to the Kremlin (presidency), Putin canceled a trip to the Caucasus, which he was supposed to make today, to monitor the evolution of the situation in the Bryansk region.

In the Kursk region, also bordering Ukraine, one person was killed in a Ukrainian shelling of the village of Tetkino, officials said, though the information has not been independently confirmed.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.1 million to European countries -, according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

At the moment, at least 18 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million people need food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and Russia political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented 8,101 civilian deaths and 13,479 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, emphasizing that these numbers are far below the real ones.
