Pole convicted of defending Russia and Putin on social media

A 59-year-old Polish teacher is being tried in a Polish court for defending Russian President Vladimir Putin and supporting Russia’s victory in the war with Ukraine, in posts posted online on social media.

Under Marzena T, whose full name is being withheld for privacy, the charge weighs in on “promoting a war or publicly praising it”, a crime punishable by three to five years in prison under Poland’s penal code.

The Polish press reported this Friday that between February 25 and May 12 last year, the defendant admitted to having written some of the posts on her social network accounts and explained that others had copied them, but in all cases she acted “in self-interest”. fear and desire that there will be no bloodshed”, as well as being moved by her “great empathy”.

In the messages, Marzena T will have criticized the “lack of integrity” of the Ukrainian government, expressed faith “in Russia’s victory and that it will help the Slavs”, and also stated his belief that “Putin will lead the nations “. oppressed by Zionism”, as well as “Ukraine, whose citizens have no idea that they are controlled by the Jews” and said he prayed that Russia would “help Poland free itself from its oppressors”.

At trial, Marzena T pleaded not guilty and justified her actions by “being the mother of two boys”, one of them with special needs, who she raised alone, saying she feared for their fate in the event of the outbreak of a war that affected Poland.

Questioned by the magistrate, the schoolteacher, who unites this work with property management, was unable to explain the meaning of some of the texts she published that she said she did not remember or recognize.

The judge responsible for the case, Artur Kosmala, asked two psychiatrists to examine Marzena T before handing down the sentence.
