The founder of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, Yevgueni Prigozhin, which keeps its fighters at the front in eastern Ukraine, again complained about the lack of ammunition and regards the delays in delivery as possible “betrayal”.
“Delivery orders were given on February 23. But so far most of the ammunition has not been shipped”Prigozhin said in a social media post.
The delay, the businessman said, has two possible reasons: “common bureaucracy or betrayal”.
Fighters from the Wagner group are on the frontline of the battle for Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine that Russia has been trying to capture for several months and where troops in Moscow and Kiev have suffered heavy casualties.
Last month, Prigozhin sharply criticized Russian Defense Minister Serguei Shoigu and General Staff Commander Valeri Guerasimov, accusing both of “treason” for the delay in supplying ammunition to the Wagner group.
A few days later, Prigozhin announced that the ammunition would finally be delivered.
In a video published this weekend, Prigozhin said that “if the Wagner group leaves Bakhmut now, the whole front will collapse”.
Despite tensions between the Wagner group and the army, Russian troops have moved into the vicinity of Bakhmut in recent days and threaten to encircle the town, which the Ukrainians continue to defend.
