Adiah and Adrial Nadarajah of Canada, born at 22 weeks, entered Guinness as the world’s most premature twins.
They just turned a year ago, were born at 126 days, surpassing the previous record of 125 days set in 2018 by twins born in the state of Iowa, USA. They weighed 330 and 420 grams respectively.
The life of Adiah and Adrial Nadarajah is considered a miracle because if they had been born a few hours earlier, they might not have survived. This is because in Canada most hospitals do not accept deliveries before 24 weeks. And at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, they only accept premature babies from 22 weeks.
“When I went into labour, the babies were not given life support measures at the hospital where I was initially admitted and could have died,” mother Shakina Rajendram told Guinness.
Adiah and Adrial Nadarajah were in the hospital for about six months and being very premature, they experienced several complications. But the parents and doctors never gave up and today the two twins are in good health. Adiah was fired first and his brother went home a few weeks later.
“Many times we have seen the babies almost die in front of our eyes,” said the mother.
