Musk roughs up wheelchair-bound Twitter worker fired without notice

The billionaire owner of the social network Twitter, Elon Musk, fired without notice this Sunday more than 200 employees of the company, including the disabled Haraldur Throleifsson, who insisted on obtaining confirmation from the boss.

Thorleifsson, who until three days ago was a worker at Twitter, only had doubts about his employment situation when last Sunday he tried to log into his computer to work and found that he had lost access, which also happened to more than 200 company workers. .

He could have deduced that, like many before him, in the chaotic months of ‘layoffs’ and layoffs since Elon Musk took over the company, he had been let go.

But, instead, after nine days without a response from Twitter about whether or not he was still working, Thorleifsson decided to send Musk a message on the social network itself (a ‘tweet’), to see if it would attract the attention of the billionaire and I got a conclusive answer about your job title.

“Maybe if enough people ‘retweet’ (forward their contacts) this message, they’ll get back to me here,” Thorleifsson wrote Monday.

At the end of some time, I ended up getting his answer, after a surreal dialogue on Twitter with Musk, in which Musk asked about what job he does and about his deficiency and accommodation needs (Thorleifsson has muscular dystrophy and dislocates his Wheelchair).

Elon Musk then wrote a ‘tweet’ that read: “Thorleifsson has an active and well-known Twitter account and is rich [e] The reason he faced me in public was to get a big deal.”

As the conversation continued, Thorleifsson indicated that he had received an email informing him that he no longer worked for the company.

Resident in Iceland and with around 141,000 followers on Twitter (Musk has more than 130 million), Thorleifsson started working there in 2021, when the previous owners acquired their ‘startup’, Ueno.

At the time, he was praised in the Icelandic media for choosing to receive the purchase price in the form of monthly salaries, rather than a large one-time lump sum, as he would then pay higher taxes to Iceland, which would contribute to support the social services and safety net that the country provides.

Thorleifsson also responded to Musk on Twitter, telling him: “The reason I asked you in public [se ainda tinha emprego ou não] It was because neither you nor anyone else at the company responded to my private messages.”

“I had every right to fire me. But it would have been nice to let me know!” he added.

Asked on the social network about what he is going to do now, the Icelandic computer scientist replied: “I am going to open a restaurant in the center of Reykjavik soon. It will bear the name of my mother.”
