On Thursday, four bodies were found in the rubble of a house in western Switzerland that was destroyed after an explosion and fire, local police said.
Emergency services were alerted at 6:40 am to an explosion at the isolated house in the town of Yverdon-les-Bains in the Swiss canton of Vaud. Then a fire engulfed the building in ashes.
“The building went up completely in flames. Several residents died and were found in the rubble,” Vaud police spokeswoman Florence Maillard said in a statement.
“Four victims were found dead at home. A child is still being sought,” he added.
Vaud’s main newspaper, the 24 hourssaid a family of five lived in the house.
Police, fire and emergency services arrived on the scene.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown. Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
