Five people were killed and at least 10 are missing after a ferry capsized with 31 migrants on board in the Aegean Sea today, the Greek coast guard said in a statement.
The accident occurred to the west of the Greek island of Farmakonisi, in Turkish territorial waters, according to the statement cited by EFE.
So far, five migrants have been rescued, who managed to reach safety on the small island in the Aegean Sea.
The Turkish coast guard informed Greece that it had rescued 11 other people and had recovered five lifeless bodies.
Two helicopters and two Greek boats are involved in search and rescue operations, hampered by strong winds being felt in the region.
The ferry left the Turkish coast, according to the statement, and the origin and other details of the migrants on board were unknown.
