Former US Vice President Mike Pence said on Saturday that history will hold former US head of state Donald Trump responsible for his role in the 2021 Capitol robbery, the press reported.
‘President Trump was wrong’Pence said in a speech at a gala of journalists, which was attended by several political figures.
“I had no right to cancel [o resultado das] elections. And reckless words that day endangered my family and everyone else on Capitol Hill. And I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”said Pence, quoted by several media outlets.
During the attack on the Washington Capitol on January 6, 2021, Trump supporters argued that Pence should be hanged, forcing the then US Vice President to seek refuge in a safe place.
Mike Pence refused to support Donald Trump at the time, in an effort to reverse the 2020 presidential election result and stay in power.
Trump has already made public his intention to run for president in 2024, with Pence indicating he may challenge the former president for the Republican Party’s nomination.
