A shaky ship with 47 migrants on board is struggling to float a few kilometers off the coast of Libya, the non-governmental organization Alarm Phone warned on the social network Twitter on Sunday.
“More than 24 hours after our first warning to the authorities, the migrants are exhausted and still at sea, battling the wind and adverse weather conditions. We ask the authorities to coordinate a rescue as soon as possible and people to a safe place in Italy.”wrote Alarm Phone, an NGO founded by a network of activists to alert rescues at sea.
The ship, they claimed, has been adrift since Saturday and hit by high waves in the central Mediterranean.
“The so-called Libyan coast guard told us that the Italian authorities would coordinate the rescue, but they gave us no information. The people must be rescued and brought safely to Europe,” the NGO added.
