Best non-Portuguese animated short film: wins “The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse”

The film “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse,” by Peter Baynton and Charlie Mackesy, won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film tonight at the 95th Academy of Arts and Sciences Awards to America’s Cinematographers.

João Gonzalez’s “Ice Merchants”, the first Portuguese film nominated for an Oscar in Hollywood, was nominated in this category along with “The Flying Sailor” by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, “My Year of Dicks” by Sara Gunnarsdóttir , and “An Ostrich Told Me The World Is Fake And I Think I Believe It” by Lachlan Pendragon.

In an interview with the Lusa agency on Sunday, João González said that “this nomination was already a great victory.”

“We, above all, are already happy to have reached this point and the most important thing is that, whatever the result that comes out in that envelope, it will be a day of celebration for the whole team,” said González.

The Oscars celebrate their 95th edition tonight at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, in a ceremony in which “Ice Merchants”, by Portuguese director João Gonzalez, is also nominated for Best Animated Short Film.
