Duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (The Daniels) won the Oscar for Best Director tonight at the 95th Academy Awards of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for “Everything and Everywhere at the Same Time.”
Martin McDonagh, for “The Spirits of Inisherin”, Steven Spielberg, for “The Fabelmans”, Todd Field, for “Tár”, and Ruben Östlund, for “Triangle of Sadness”, were the other candidates.
The Oscars celebrate their 95th edition tonight, in a ceremony that takes place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, which featured the short film “Ice Merchants”, by the Portuguese João Gonzalez, nominated for Best Animated Short Film.
An independent production by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, “Everywhere at the Same Time” garnered the most nominations, 11, including Best Picture and Best Director, plus acting.
The Oscar for Best Picture, the last one to be announced tonight, are also nominated for “The Spirits of Inisherin” (Martin McDonagh), “The Fablemans” (Steven Spielberg), “Tár” (Todd Field), “No West Again ” (Edward Berger), “Top Gun: Maverick” (Joseph Kosinski), “Elvis” (Baz Luhrmann), “Avatar: The Road to Water” (James Cameron), “The Voice of a Woman” (Sarah Polley) and “Triangle of sadness” (Ruben Ostlund).
