The Kremlin admits Putin’s participation in the G20, but no decisions have been made

The Kremlin admitted on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin may attend the G20 summit in India in September, but stressed that no final decisions have yet been made.

“This cannot be ruled out,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the daily telephone press conference, adding that “no decisions have been made yet.”

“Russia continues to participate fully in G20 format and we intend to continue” participation, the spokesman underlined.

The G20 summit is scheduled for September 9 and 10 in New Delhi.

Last year, the Russian head of state was not present at the summit of the 19 most industrialized countries in the world and the European Union bloc that took place in Indonesia, represented by the head of Russian diplomacy Serguei Lavrov.

In 2020 and 2021, before the Russian military campaign against Ukraine, the Russian president remotely participated in the G20 meetings of heads of state.

The last time Putin personally attended a G20 summit was in Japan in 2019.
