Tensions have risen in recent weeks in the former Soviet republic, neighboring Ukraine, whose ambition to join the European Union is viewed with suspicion in the Kremlin.
“At the moment there is no direct military danger against Moldova, but other kinds of dangers affecting security” of the country, explained Nosatii, interviewed in the capital, Chisinau.
The minister cited “disinformation, Russian-induced tensions in society” and a “series of provocations”, aimed at sowing chaos and “undermining political order”.
The day before, police announced the arrest of several members of a network allegedly orchestrated by Russia tasked with destabilizing Moldova for intervening in the capital’s usual anti-government demonstrations.
Last month, Russia denied plans to stage a coup in Moldova to overthrow the government, calling the allegation “baseless”.
