The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoli Antonov, asked Washington on Wednesday to end hostile flights near the Russian border, in reaction to the interception, on Tuesday, of a US drone by Russian aviation in the Sea Black.
“We assume that the United States will refrain from speculation in the media and that it will suspend flights near the Russian borders,” Antonov wrote in a text released by the digital messaging system Telegram.
“We consider all actions with US weapons ‘clearly hostile’,” he stressed.
In the same message, Antonov says that “Russia does not seek confrontation and expects pragmatic cooperation within the framework of the interests of the peoples of both countries.”
On Tuesday, the United States accused Russian aircraft of “intercepting and shooting down” an unmanned aerial device (drone) in the Black Sea.
Russia acknowledged that two warplanes had intercepted a US drone that had been detected “in the Crimean Peninsula area” and was moving “towards” Russia’s borders.
According to the Moscow Army, “the Russian fighters did not use weapons” and did not come into contact with the drone that was flying with “the transponders (electronic telecommunications devices) turned off” and that it was flying over “the airspace established for the special military operation of Russia in Ukraine”.
