Argentines Sofía Rodríguez and Leonardo Costa, from the city of Córdoba, gave birth to twins Lorenzo and Valentín on January 6. But one day, after a shower and without the identification bracelets they had taken when they left the hospital, on February 16, the parents could no longer distinguish their children. They then asked the police for help, but it was the registry office that solved the problem. .
“Tomorrow I have to go to the police so they can fingerprint my twins and tell me who is who. I won the Mother of the Year award,” Sofía wrote on Twitter on March 2. The twins were 45 days old at the time.
The police took their fingerprints – even real twins, who have the same DNA, have different fingerprints. But since they were not included in the system, it was still impossible to distinguish them.
Finally, it was the employees of the National Registry of Persons (the Argentine Civil Registry) who went to the couple’s house to identify the twins, even receiving congratulations from the Minister of the Interior, Wado de Pedro.
It was thanks to the biometric data of the twins, registered on the day of birth, when they were given the newborn ID card, that it was possible to identify Lorenzo and Valentín again last Wednesday.
“Thanks to this action, we were able to confirm the identity of both, fulfilling one of the essential tasks of our organism, which is to guarantee the right to identity of all people,” they indicated.
And for the avoidance of doubt, Valentin is the one with the dark blue wristband and Lorenzo the one with the light blue wristband.
