Support for Ukraine. “Let’s not get into battles of skills and egos”

European Union High Representative for Foreign and Defense Policy Josep Borrell calls on European leaders to put aside “struggles and egos” and be as practical as possible in European decisions to help Ukraine.

The head of European diplomacy hopes to get the green light on Monday for a new aid of 2 billion euros for the purchase of ammunition.

“Member States must mobilize together to be more efficient,” defended Borrell, as EU members “need to deliver ammunition to Ukraine quickly, in larger quantities and on the best financial terms for our side.”

“Let’s be practical [e] let’s not plunge into a battle of powers and egos”, urged the High Representative at the entrance of the Council of Foreign and Defense Ministers, waiting for the 27 to give the green light to an agreement worth 2 billion euros in war aid to Ukraine.

“If we don’t do that, we will be in trouble to continue supplying arms to Ukraine,” warned Josep Borrell, convinced that the war has entered a turning point, with the International Criminal Court’s (ICC)’s “important decision” for the arrest of the Russian president.

“It is a change in the rules of the game, because if President Putin travels to one of the countries that have signed this international treaty, he will be immediately detained,” he said, welcoming the decision.

“You can negotiate with whomever you want, but this court ruling remains valid and it is there: President Putin will be arrested if he goes to [qualquer um de] more than 130 countries,” he stressed.
