Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Ukrainian “defenders” “exercise with great care and courage the tasks imposed on them”, controlling the “front-line situation”.
“The situation on the front lines clearly shows that the initiative belongs to Ukraine,” Zelensky wrote on the Telegram messaging service.
The head of state also congratulated the 81st Separate Air Assault Brigade for their courage in liberating settlements in the Donetsk region, and the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade for the heroic defense of Bakhmut and Soledar.
Zelensky also called for more support for Ukraine’s Armed Forces, intelligence, Special Operations Forces, National Guard, police and border guards.
The Ukrainian leader asked for help “for all those who are gradually restoring” Ukraine.
However, Ukraine’s first lady Olena Zelenska is attending the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA.
“My visit to the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly started in a special way. Together with the First Ladies of Poland and Lithuania, Agatha Kornhauser-Duda and Diana Nausediene, we created our own ‘Lublin Triangle,'” Zelenska wrote. on Twitter, pointing to “the development of cooperation and joint humanitarian projects”.
The high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly began on Tuesday, at the UN headquarters in New York, and will continue until next Monday, with the presence of dozens of heads of state and government, including the Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa.
This is the first General Assembly since the start of the war in Ukraine and the first in person since the start of the pandemic.
The event is being held under the theme “A Watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions for Interconnected Challenges”, and will focus on the war in Ukraine and the global food, climate and energy crises.
