Vladimir Putin admitted this Tuesday during the joint press conference with Xi Jinping that the peace proposal presented by China could solve the war in Ukraine.
“Many proposals in China’s peace plan can be accepted as a basis for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, as long as the West and Kiev are prepared for it.”said the Russian president.
The Chinese leader, on the other hand, affirmed his country’s impartiality and reiterated that China is for peace. “I would like to emphasize that we are constantly guided by the UN Charter and take an impartial stance. We are for peace and dialogue”said Xi Jinping, who says China is on the right side of history, in an apparent criticism of the West for supplying arms to Ukraine.
The two leaders also emphasized commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries. “China is Russia’s most important trading partner,” Putin stressed, promising to maintain and exceed last year’s “high level” of trade.
The Russian president says that Russia and China will develop ties in finance, transport, logistics and energy, underlining that China now leads the import of Russian oil and that gas imports are also growing.
The Kremlin leader says the two countries “continue to develop the peaceful use of nuclear energy” and that “Russia is helping to build nuclear power plants in China”.
Still on the nuclear issue, Putin assured that Russia will be forced to respond if the UK supplies depleted uranium munitions to Ukraine, something admitted by the British Ministry of Defence.
Xi Jinping, on the other hand, was “very happy” to be in Moscow for Putin and thanked the “hospitality” and “warm welcome” and assured that the two leaders have supported each other for more than a decade and will continue to do so, highlighting the “candid , open and friendly” conversations between them.
“The ties between China and Russia went well beyond bilateral communication,” said Xi, who says the two countries will focus on growing three areas of trade: energy, commodities and electronics.
