An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck northwestern Afghanistan on Tuesday, in the Jurm area near the borders with Pakistan and Tajikistan.
Data advanced by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) show that the earthquake originated at a depth of 187.6 km and that it will have been felt with a maximum intensity of IV to V, that is, mild to moderate.
