Police detain 457 people during clashes in France

The disturbances that marked some protests in France against the pension reform on Thursday led to the detention of 457 demonstrators and 441 officers were injured, The Ministry of the Interior said on Friday.

The figures were provided by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who said in an interview with the CNews channel that the far-left was responsible for the acts of violence that took place on the sidelines of the marches organized by the unions.

“The extreme left wants to attack the Republic and it is necessary to send a message of condemnation,” said the minister.

Darmanin acknowledged in the same interview that unions condemned the violence, “unlike” some members of the opposition.

On Thursday, a nationwide protest took place in France against the presidential decree that changes the retirement age from 62 to 64 years.

The demonstrations were organized by French trade union structures.

Canceled flights in Paris, Lyon and Marseille due to strike

France’s directorate-general of civil aviation today told airlines to cancel 33% of flights at Paris-Orly airport next Sunday and 20% on Monday due to the air traffic controllers’ strike.

The strike was called in protest against the decree law that changes the retirement age from 62 to 64 years.

Classified as a “preventive measure”, the flight cancellations also provide for the cancellation of 20% of flights at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry and Marseille airports on Sunday.

On Monday, Marseille airport, in the south of France, is expected to cancel 20% of air connections
