Russia’s Security Council vice president Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday that “if necessary” Russian troops “could arrive” in Ukraine’s capital or the city of Lviv.
“Nothing can be ruled out. If you have to go to Kiev, you have to go to Kiev. If you have to go to Lviv, you have to go to Lviv to end this infection,” said Medvedev, a former Russian head of state between 2008 and 2012.
Medvedev’s statements about the war in Ukraine are part of an interview with Russian media.
Referring to the objectives of the Russian military campaign, Medvedev said Moscow must create “a sanitary cordon” on the Russian border to prevent weapons with a range of “70 to 100 kilometers” from reaching Russia.
“It is necessary to achieve all the objectives set to protect our territory, the territory of the Russian Federation,” Medvedev added.
