Dilma Rousseff, former president of Brazil, was officially appointed yesterday as president of the New Development Bank, also known as the Brics bank, a group of emerging countries in the economic field that also includes Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The former ruler was appointed by Lula da Silva, Brazil’s current president, and Dilma’s term at the head of the Shanghai-based bank runs until July 2025.
Dilma Rousseff was approved by a committee made up of economy ministers from this group, allowing her to succeed compatriot Marcos Troyo, who was appointed by Jair Bolsonaro in 2020.
It should be noted that the Brics bank is responsible for financing projects and the sustainable development of the Member States.
Dilma Rousseff served as Brazil’s president from January 2011 to August 2016, when she was removed from office after the federal senate approved a request to deposition of the ruler, after several scandals that affected the PT, namely the Lava Jato case.
